Electrolux Professional History

Electrolux Professional History

Electrolux Professional has a rich history spanning over a century, with companies like Wascator, Zanussi, and Cecilware forming the foundation of the brand. The Professional business in the Electrolux Professional Group began in 1962 with the acquisition of Elektro Helios, a company operating in the professional foodservice industry. The business expanded to include professional laundry in the early 1970s. In 1989, Electrolux Professional integrated all of its professional activities, including market leaders in food service, laundry systems, commercial refrigeration, and cleaning. From 1996 to 2002, the company streamlined its operations and closed approximately 20 smaller plants while divesting from leisure appliances, motors, and compressors.

In 1999, Electrolux Professional established an operational headquarters for the professional business area in Pordenone, Italy, focusing on two main product lines: food service and laundry systems. The company began to focus on international expansion in 2004, establishing operational offices in North America, and incorporating an industrial facility in Thailand in 2005. Electrolux Professional continued to expand through acquisitions in subsequent years, including Shanghai Veetsan Commercial Machinery in China in 2015, Grindmaster-Cecilware in the United States in 2017, SPM in Italy in 2018, and Unic in France in 2019. In 2021, the company acquired Unified Brands, a leading US-based manufacturer of foodservice equipment.

Electrolux Professional’s mission is:

Making Electrolux Professional’s customers’ work-life easier, more profitable – and truly sustainable every day.

Strategy focuses on four pillars, built on a foundation of operational excellence to improve sales, productivity and cost efficiency in the supply chain.

Grow through innovation: we want to set the pace of industry innovation in sustainability and energy efficiency, underpinned by a connected and digital platform.

Expand in food service chains: organic increase of sales to food service chains and potential M&A to support acceleration.

Boost Customer care (aftermarket) sales: we will further develop our global service network and competence as a full-service provider while increasing sales of spare parts, accessories, and consumables.

Leverage “The OnE approach”: we want to strengthen our global product and service offering, with both single and full solutions and services across Food, Beverage and Laundry – under one brand – allowing customers to manage their operations through connectivity and a digital ecosystem.

Market segments and competition

Company views and addresses the market through two main segments, commercial food and beverage equipment and commercial laundry equipment.

Electrolux Professional Group is one of the leading global players in terms of sales, with a complete offering for both the food and beverage sector and the global laundry equipment market. There are a number of large global players in these markets but in local markets we also compete with significant local players and companies focused on individual product lines.

Food & Beverage

Food & Beverage operates in the global professional equipment industry, offering food service and beverage equipment and solutions to a wide range of customers, such as hotels, restaurants, retail points, schools and hospitals. Growth is affected by changes in consumer food habits and delivery models, total cost of ownership and environmental awareness, product automation and connectivity to support customer’s optimization of the workforce and reducing labor costs, and new and innovative beverage trends.

Laundry

Laundry offers equipment designed to meet a diverse array of professional users, from self-service and the hospitality industry, to health providers and commercial laundries. Customers include hospital and hotel laundries, multi-housing laundries and launderettes. The Laundry segment divides its target market into two main areas; the first is comprised of customers that generate business with professional laundry equipment, and the second is customers that use the product as part of their broader service offering.
