Innovative Laundry Lab: Open The Door To Real World Research On Laundry Habits!

Interesting fact! Large-scale laundromats, with their huge volumes of work, throw out waste 26% - 27% less than a standard machine of one apartment!

Not so long ago in Gothenburg, where the Professional’s Future Laundry Studio is located, an outstanding event took place! His topic was to discuss the benefits of using the nuances of home washing to shape the social experience. It is only part of a unique research project. Laundry Studio is part of the HSB Living Lab at Chalmers Technological University.

It was opened in 2016, and since then, it has not ceased to provide value and offer a unique experience! The technical laboratory is an apartment building where 30 people live. The lives of these 30 people are constantly being investigated! Specialists analyze their social behavior, how they use natural resources, what materials they prefer, and so on. Thus, professionals are looking for solutions that will help people to use various resources wisely in the future. Anyone can take a virtual tour of this house.

So, hundreds of visitors (government members, researchers, etc.) rushed to the Laundry Studio. They are interested in the process that takes place inside the laboratory and also in the building itself. This project is already 10 years old and is halfway through, and has a lot to offer experts. So, this is a great opportunity for partners, including experts from Electrolux Professional, to share their ideas and experience with those who are interested in developing future technologies. A total of 3 webinars occurred on the energy efficiency of laundries, the general economy, the prospects for sustainable development of housing associations, and ordinary residents.

Sharing Expert Experience - Making An Invaluable Contribution To The Planet's Future!

Experts analyzed sustainable behavior while washing dishes. They concluded that this behavior of each of us has an impact on the environment! That is why they set out to find ways to make this behavior more sustainable. For example, professionals have studied the environmental influence of shared laundries in apartment buildings. They concluded unequivocally that shared laundries help reduce harmful emissions by 26% - 27% than any single apartment washing machine.

Peter Sundqvist is Sales Manager Apartment House Laundry and the representative of Electrolux Professional. He emphasized that we can all reduce our environmental impact! We just need to stop using the washing machine in every apartment. For this, each apartment building needs to be equipped with professional laundry. These laundries are equipped with advanced technological solutions and help make our planet healthier!

Recently, two Chalmers researchers collaborating with The Research Hub wrote a very informative paper, ‘Sharing is Caring’ published in The International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment. Here you can find many interesting conclusions and expert opinions on how to rationalize many household processes for the benefit of our planet.

Research Experience For Smart Laundries!

Laundry Studio is part of the Research Hub by Electrolux Professional. The experts here promote innovation, conduct research, and collaborate with academia and external research centers. It is very painstaking work that requires maximum attention and concentration. Marius Stücheli, coordinator for The Research Hub in Sweden, highlights the importance of HSB Living Lab. He also says that such an essential investment will help strengthen the innovation system, gain vital knowledge and experience, and find new talent! All of this together will help create a sustainable future. Marius also notes that it is becoming increasingly difficult to control these aspects, so it is significant to develop interdisciplinary cooperation. So there is more and more research where engineering is applied along with knowledge about the environment. It will help to find the right solutions to maintain the environment.

HSB Living Lab: The Essence

It is a unique multi-level research project. It involves experts, the municipality, and the business community. In addition, the organizers invite students and external experts who live there and participate in research. Together, they have already managed to find many smart solutions to shape the resilience of the future. 2000+ sensors have been installed! They measure and record data on the resources spent, the consequences of open refrigerator doors, emerging heat flows, and so on. Measuring and recording these data will help to find reasonable solutions for organizing the right everyday behavior.
